Bob and Ann’s
Bob threw the stack of papers down on the table. It was supposed to be one of the happiest days of Bob and Ann’s lives, and yet, here they sat, angry and frustrated.
They had been dreaming about their retirement for years. They thought they were all set. But now there were so many doggone decisions to be made. Nobody told them it would be so confusing.
Ann’s dad got a party and a lifetime pension; that was pretty straight forward. Bob and Ann have ALL these important decisions to make. It’s overwhelming.
Bob already knew that some of the decisions they were facing couldn’t be changed. Once the form was signed and submitted, the choices can’t be undone or changed. The HR department was NO help; they say they can’t give advice. (Not that they have the relevant expertise anyway.) Bob and Ann talked with their financial advisor and now they had a pretty 50-page report. Their advisor told them the report said they would be fine and wasn’t much help when it came to making many of the decisions Bob and Ann were facing.
They needed help.
Bob and Ann researched online. They bought three 5-star-rated books from Amazon. They attended two dinner seminars and met with the presenters, who sometimes just seemed to be pushing their one-size-fits-all financial product. They even asked family members, who had a plethora of opinions.
Everyone has an opinion.
But Bob and Ann don’t want opinions. They want an established process, and wisdom from someone who is experienced at retiring. They don’t want to blow it. This is their chance to set the course for their retirement.
Ann knew they were in over their heads. They can’t do it themselves.
Then a light bulb went off for Bob. His good friend, Jonathan, retired a few years ago and he was a company Controller. They talk from time to time and Jonathan said he went through a retiring process of some kind. Bob didn’t pay attention at the time, since he was still a few years away from retiring, but now it was time to make a call about it.
Jonathan had found an advisor specializing in retiring. He called them and they sent him a Retiring FITT® Scorecard and Special Report. Bob and Ann went through the scorecard and report.
The scorecard and report showed them that they needed help.
What questions should they ask? What if they were wrong about something? That’s when tears started to roll down Ann’s check. They have worked hard for this. They needed someone who could really help them.
They soon had an appointment with Jonathan’s Retiring Specialist.
The Retiring Specialist they met with helped them clarify and discuss their goals and concerns.
They addressed the 25 different areas in their Retirement Roadmap in detail.
They worked together to lay out and address some specific, actionable steps to help them through the retiring process.
